Santa Rosa Strength & Conditioning started as CrossFit Santa Rosa, Sonoma County’s original CrossFit affiliate, back in 2009.  Since then, CrossFit has been the cornerstone of SRSC’s programming, helping to create a comprehensive fitness and nutrition program designed to help you make sustainable improvements to your health.

Custom Strength & Conditioning

Our customized strength and conditioning training is done in small groups of up to 6 people, and your program is specifically designed to meet YOUR individual needs. This hybrid of personal and group training is unique to SRSC and provides both individualized attention and the camaraderie of community to support your success.

Unlimited Group Conditioning

Our group conditioning sessions are designed to improve your metabolic conditioning and strength.  Classes have a variety of focuses, including CrossFit, kettlebells, and running/OCR. These group classes added to your Custom Program round out your comprehensive training plan.

Mobility, Flexibility, & Injury Prevention

Restore full range of motion in your joints and muscles and return your body to normal, pain-free function. We prescribe specific mobility exercises for you based on your limitations and “tight” spots, to both rehabilitate and prevent injury.

Is CrossFit for Me?

CrossFit’s founder, Dr. Greg Glassman, is famously quoted as saying “The needs of an Olympic athlete and our grandparents differ by degree not kind.  One is looking for functional dominance, the other for functional competence.” The key word in his quote is “functional”.  At SRSC, we focus our programming on exercises and movements that mimic and improve your performance of a broad range sports and, most importantly, activities of daily living. The same movements that will improve your running, cycling, or tennis game will also make sure you can easily carry your groceries, squat down to tie your shoes, and enjoy playing with your kids or grandchildren throughout your life.

What is CrossFit?

Succinctly put, CrossFit is constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity. CrossFit uses movements borrowed from gymnastics, Olympic-style Weightlifting, Powerlifting, calisthenics and endurance sports like running and rowing, put together in fun and intense circuits to improve fitness. In his article, What is Fitness, Dr. Glassman summarizes in 100 words a path to fitness that resonates with us at SRSC:

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.

Practice and train the major lifts: deadlift, clean, squat, presses, clean-and-jerk, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climbs, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstands, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc. hard and fast.

Five or six days per week, mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.

Regularly learn and play new sports.

Dr. Glassman’s path to fitness is one of the inspirations of our Ten Principles for Member Success that inspire our work everyday.

While the formula is simple, everybody is starting at different levels of comfort, fitness, and ability.
